History Of Pharmacole

In 1980, Roger and Elaine Cole met with Medicine Shoppe International about opportunities for opening a pharmacy in northern West Virginia. In 1981, the pharmacy opened as a Medicine Shoppe pharmacy in the Elby’s Plaza. On the first day, not a single prescription was filled; and only three on the second day; by the end of the week, the pharmacy has filled 25 prescriptions.

In 1985, the business incorporated under the name PharmaCole – a lasting tribute to the Cole family for their investment into the business and the community. In 1990, the pharmacy relocated just a mile north to location with private consultation and room for educational programs.

In 2001, the pharmacy changed names to Moundsville Pharmacy. In the same week, Cole hired a young pharmacy student, Jason Turner to work during the summers. Upon graduation from pharmacy school in 2003, Turner joined the staff and was offered the opportunity to become a partner in the business a year later.

In 2012, Turner became the sole owner of Pharmacole Inc, operating as Moundsville Pharmacy. After two years of planning and construction, in 2014, the pharmacy moved across the street to its current location. The new pharmacy site offers improved access, increased parking, drive thru service, and most importantly, modernized space to improve and expand the specialty services offered by the pharmacy.

Over the years, there are a number of firsts the pharmacy can claim. Moundsville Pharmacy was the first pharmacy in Marshall County to use a computer to process prescription, screen for drug interactions, and keep patient profiles. Moundsville Pharmacy was the first pharmacy to offer health care screenings like blood pressure, cholesterol, glaucoma, hearing, and foot screenings. And Moundsville Pharmacy was the first pharmacy to offer pharmacist administered immunizations like flu and pneumonia vaccines.

In 2014, the organization had the opportunity to expand services into Tyler county with the acquisition of HPS Pharmacy in Sistersville, WV – changing the name to Sistersville Pharmacy. The organization set a goal to provide all of the services at it’s flagship pharmacy in Moundsville to the community of Sistersville.

In 2017, Turner received a call to expand into Wetzel county with the acquisition of Norris Pharmacy in Pine Grove, WV – changing the name to Pine Grove Pharmacy. And again, in 2018, the organization acquired Witschey’s Pharmacy located in Witschey’s Market (now Riesbecks) in New Martinsville, WV – changing the name to New Martinsville Pharmacy.

Today, the operation of PharmaCole continues through the efforts of pharmacy owner, Jason Turner, PharmD, wife Tiffany, and a robust staff of pharmacists, technicians, and support staff. With four locations, the organization services thousands of patients across Marshall, Wetzel, and Tyler counties.

Our Mission is to be the preferred pharmacy in the community by offering the highest level of customer service, pharmacy services to meet patient needs, to be solution finders for our patients and physicians, and to demonstrate our passion and commitment with every interaction.

As a pharmacy, we are focused on being fast, friendly, professional, and accurate in filling prescriptions. In addition, we offer a variety of services to meet the needs of our patients - including a SyncRx medication synchronization program, medication packaging, customized prescription compounding, immunizations, home delivery, medication therapy management, Medicare Part D plan reviews, along with a full line of home medical equipment, over-the-counter, and retail gift items – all provided through the efforts of a friendly, dedicated team of pharmacists and technicians.

Roger always believed that if the pharmacy takes good care of our patients, that they will take good care of the pharmacy. What continues to attract patient to our pharmacies is our friendly, professional staff which are eager and experienced in serving in the community AND our innovative services that truly simplify the medication management processes for patients and caregivers.
